Now that John Wiley has offically released the information via THE SCARLETT LETTER, I am posting it here for those of you who might not subscribe to that wonderful newsletter (if you don't, you SHOULD).
Yes, Herb Bridges, known around the world as "the" GWTW author/lecturer/collector, has made the decision to sell his collection of thousands of pieces via Christie's Auction House. Herb has been collecting for over 40 years and has accumulated an unbeleivable amount of GWTW memorabilia. His collection is made up of not only merchandise memorabilia, but actual movie props, costumes, etc. Herb seems to think he is no longer 20 years old and is doing the responsible thing in planning for the benefit of his family.
Herb has no intentions of departing from the GWTW scene at all, but plans to continue presenting programs about the book and film as opportunities arise. He currently has some of his collection on display at the Margaret Mitchell House Museum in Atlanta, and some of the collection will also be on display at the Clayton County Welcome Center in Jonesboro, Georgia (location of the former Road to Tara Museum in the train station building).
We GWTW collectors certainly appreciate the opportunity of being able to see part of the collection which has been shared with not only we Americans, but also in Japan and France.
For those of you who may be in the Gadsden, Alabama area, Herb will have selected pieces from his collection on display at the Center for Cultural Arts in Gadsden from July 2nd through November 4th. This exhibit entitled "Gone With the Wind Remembered", will have some special events associated with it, such as Cammie King presenting her "Tea With Bonnie Blue" program on August 6th.
Now ... if we only had a couple hundred thousand dollars, we could REALLY do some shopping at Christie's ... We'll probably all be amazed at the prices these GWTW items will bring at auction!
