As most of you know, I was lucky enough to attend the Christie's GWTW auction in New York in July. While there, I purchased a piece of carpeting from the Herb Bridges collection that was removed from the Loew's Theater shortly after it burned down in 1978. I have taken this carpet and cut it into pieces and had it custom framed, along with a photo of Margaret Mitchell standing at the door of the theater the night of the Premiere. The carpeting can be seen clearly in the photo where Margaret Mitchell is standing. Also in the presentation is a brief explanation of the piece. The wall presentation comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.
The explanation states:
"THE LOEW'S GRAND THEATER CARPETING
Home of the Premiere of
GONE WITH THE WIND
As can be seen in the photo of the author of GWTW, Margaret Mitchell, standing at the door of the theater on December 15, 1939, this multicolored carpeting was the perfect compliment
to the Loew's art deco style of the 1930's.
The Loew's Grand Theater in Atlanta was destroyed by fire in 1978."
The photo shown above measures (glass area only) 11" x 14" and the photo and explanation area is approx. 4"x6". Unfortunately, I took the photo at an angle to avoid the "glass glare", so details do not come out very clearly. I have six (6) of these available for sale at $179.99 each. This is truly something that you will not be able to find elsewhere and something for the serious collector. If you are interested in purchasing one of these, please contact me via email or calling me direct at (813) 752-7700, Tuesday-Saturday, 11:00-5:30pm.
If you are interested in a larger presentation with 2 photos and a larger piece of carpeting, we have 3 of these pieces. Just click on the optional link to view a photo. The piece measures 14"x18" (glass area) and also contains a photo of the Loew's Theater the night of December 15, 1939 GWTW Premiere.
