Have you ever seen a photo of this scene before? This photo shows Belle Watling giving water to the men -- this part of the scene was cut out. The number of bodies and extras needed for this scene was so excessive that Selznick resorted to dummies to fill out the crowds. "I learned through the grapevine that the union was going to try to have Selznick pay for each dummy the same amount of money that we extras got," remembered Johnny Alright, an extra. "They were going to use that money to give to some extra guy that needed to work and didn't work that particular day."
