What a WONDERFUL experience our trip to California was for this Gone With the Wind enthusiast! Before I start with Posting No. 1 for the trip, I MUST say a heartfelt THANK YOU, THANK YOU to the friends who made this all possible for me. I have been very fortunate to enjoy the friendship for many years of Patrick Curtis and Mickey Kuhn who played two of the four Beau Wilkes in GWTW. Because of their kindness and consideration for me, I was treated like a VIP during the evening -- quite an honor for this GWTW fan from Florida!!
I am starting off with photos of the Invitation and Tickets sent to the members of the Academy, and those who received special invitations to attend this tribute honoring Olivia de Havilland. As a result of being able to attend the pre-event cocktail party with Academy members, I was fortunate enough to get close-up photos of Ms. de Havilland, still magnificently beautiful at 90 years old. And, ladies, if we could only find out her secret for beautiful skin!!! She looked, acted, walked, spoke, etc., etc., as we dreamed our Melanie would. Looking marvelous in her white satin suit and matching white shoes, her beautiful white hair was the crowning touch for this elegant lady. I felt like I had to pinch myself as I sat looking at her during the evening (she sat in the row in front of us, seven seats to our left -- I always knew 7 was my lucky number, especially since we sat 7 rows from the front!!).
As soon as I can get more photos ready for viewing, probably tomorrow, I'll continue with Post No. 2 of our trip.
