"I always knew that life was not really anything but a dream. A bad dream for me, I think. But why? What was the purpose of it? And why was I the person I was? Was it to teach me something or to teach other people something, or for some other reason we don’t know at all?"
Actress Vivien Leigh, who died in 1967, was a brilliant, flawed, iconic star. Remembered for her outstanding beauty and her Oscar-winning film roles as Scarlett O’Hara in Gone With The Wind and Blanche DuBois in A Streetcar Named Desire, her private life was shadowed by manic depression and an obsessive love for her husband, Laurence Olivier.
Against the background of Vivien Leigh’s life, loves and illness, this book explores her roles as an actress, the nature of acting and her personal philosophies.
In a modern world it is becoming increasingly difficult to identify what is real and what is illusion. Vivien Leigh’s story challenges readers to explore all aspects of their lives and relationships, discarding masks and stereotypes to discover a personal truth.
