While we traveling down to Fred Crane's home, we stopped by the site on which the old Fitzgerald home is now located. Purchased by Betty Talmadge, this homestead of Margaret Mitchell's grandparents was moved to Ms. Talmadge's private property, next to her plantation home. During the move, the front porch was taken off and has not been reattached to the house.
Can you just imagine Margaret Mitchell as a child sitting on the porch in the house and listing to all those Civil War stories? By seeing this home, we are also reminded that her grandparents found love and "living" in an old farmhouse just fine for them.
