As promised, my contacts in England have given me a synopsis of the play "VIVIEN LEIGH - THE LAST PRESS CONFERENCE". Here is what they have written:
The theater was situated in the heart of London's Theatreland, but only had 70 seats. The stage setting consisted of a chair and table placed centrally, with another table at each side of the stage, approximately 10 feet from the middle.
The play lasted 90 minutes, with no intermission. Marcy Lafferty was derssed in a purple 50's style suit. She began by pretending to be at a press conference, but the mood soon changed into that of a chat show -- without a host, as if someone had said "tell me about your life -- take as long as you like".
She spent around half of the time sitting in a chair, being quite calm and thorough in her recollections, but as soon as the story became dramatic, she acted out each thought by moving around the stage, flinging herself to the ground, shouting and swearing.
Scarlett was mentioned throughout the play, which showed not only how desperate she was for the part, but how it took over her life both before and during, and even after the film was completed.
It was a very powerful performance, very dramatic, and one which took the audience through the whole range of emotions.
As we left the theatre, we were pleased that we had seen the play, but as for recommding it -- it depends on your own preference. As a Vivien Leigh fan, it would have given you a huge insight into her life, but as A SCARLETT FAN, IT WILL LEAVE YOU DISILLUSIONED.
The advise of the two GWTW fans who went to see the play is: IF THE PLAY COMES TO A THEATRE NEAR YOU, GO ALONG AND MAKE UP YOUR OWN MIND ABOUT IT.
