During the Holocaust, Anne Frank, a German-Jewish girl and her family hid in a secret place in a home in Amsterdam. They were caught and sent to a concentration camp where Anne died of an illness at age 15.

Her diary shows that Anne was a positive thinker who refused to focus on the pain and the misery she faced, but rather on what she called "the glory that remains".

She wrote: "Think of the beauty that again and again discharges itself within and without you, and be happy." Thinking of Anne Frank's words this Thanksgiving Season, perhaps each of us can be reminded of the God given beauty in our own lives -- the joyous gifts of our families and friends, the abundant bounties of nature, and the very breath that we breathe.

No matter what has knocked us to our knees in the past or whatever it is that is weighing heavily upon us even now, we can remember and be assured that God's love and His power are still available to us in the final victory.

Too often we use circumstances and hardships as reasons and causes to decline an "attitude of gratitude". So many heartbreaking circumstances have faced us personally, and America as a whole these past few months, but during this Thanksgiving Season let's excuse the excuses and determine that regardless of our plight, we will choose to give thanks to God for the sake of the "glory that remains".

Jim and I wish you a blessed Thanksgiving Season. As you bow your heads to give thanks, please say a prayer for all of our military families whose homes are incomplete because of the sacrifices made by their loved ones each day for our freedom. May we all be reminded that FREEDOM is NOT FREE.
