As part of the festivities for the Atlanta Premiere, the Hollywood stars were the guests of honor at a Junior League charity ball held at the Atlanta Municipal Auditorium. The set of the Atlanta Bazaar had been flown in from Selznick's studio and erected for the ball, and the stars arrived in costume. Gable, dressed in his blockade runner's suit, shared a dance with Mayor Hartsfield's daughter.
All the stars were anxious to meet the author of GWTW. But, Margaret Mitchell decided to settle an old score with the Junior League that had denied her membership so many years before. She sent her regrets that she would not be able to attend the ball!
