Did you know that David Selznick, almost as soon as the previews were over, started seriously thinking about a sequel to GWTW?

He asked Kay Brown to approach Margaret Mitchell about writing the further adventures of Scarlett and Rhett, or selling the rights to the characters. Mitchell, though, refused to consider either possibility.

But, Selznick was undaunted and wrote to Brown: "If we can't get a sequel, I would still be delighted to have a story to be called THE DAUGHTER OF SCARLETT O'HARA, with Vivien Leigh playing the daughter. Don't you think we might persuade Mitchell to write such a story as a novel, or a novelette, or even as a short story?
"I realize that we killed off Bonnie Blue, and it is not clear to me as to how Scarlett would get herself pregnant again, but then Scarlett, after all, was Scarlett, and there must have been other men in her life after Rhett walked out the door. Maybe we could talk about a marriage beyond Rhett, or perhaps even have an opening sequence in the story and in the picture dealing with her fourth husband."

Margaret Mitchell turned down that idea, as well, and Selznick gave up hope of reprising the story of Scarlett O'Hara.
