With the recent death of Loretta Young (August 12th), I just finished reading UNCOMMON KNOWLEDGE by Judy Lewis, the daugther of Clark Gable and Loretta Young. The book, published in 1994, is out of print now, but my local library did have a copy. I don't think I will ever "get over" reading this book. It has been a few days since I finished reading it, but have thought about it constantly ever since. I found myself in tears many times while reading this book.
In my exhibit room at Cypress Gardens, I have about 32 or 33 autographs of GWTW actors. Among my autographs, I also have a signed photo inscribed to me from John Clark Gable. Being such a handsome man, he catches everyone's eye, and I constantly hear comments from exhibit visitors about his father never being able to see him. Certainly not to take ANYTHING WHATSOEVER away from John Clark, what a shame that Clark Gable choose not to be a part of his daughter's life.
I also pulled out my copy of CLARK GABLE: TALL, DARK & HANDSOME video (1996) about the life of Clark Gable and watched it again. If you ever get a chance to see this, Judy Lewis appears in this video, as well as John Clark Gable. It is probably the most realistic documentary/biography video ever produced on Clark Gable (at least from all I have seen and read).
