Margaret Mitchell had told Kay Brown (in charge of the New York office for Selznick)that she preferred not to see the screen tests of discarded Scarletts, perhaps afraid to be sucked into the selection process. But, she was pleased when Selznick airmailed her a film of Vivien Leigh's screen test, as well as those of some minor characters, including Oscar Polk. She wrote Selznick, "No one with whom I have talked made any objections about Miss Leigh being English and not American."
